Example 2 – Mapping salt domes

Salt is a low density substance with a tendency to flow that often creates traps for hydrocarbons. Gravity data is used to detect and delineate salt bodies. The image shows gravity lows outlining salt domes with anomalies large enough to be defined using low resolution regional gravity data.
